Web Services for Incorporation of Air Quality and Climate Change in Long-Term Urban Planning for Europe

چکیده
Planning for sustainable cities requires the inclusion of environmental aspects like air quality. Within a planning perspective of 20-30 years, there are various factors influencing future air quality: Worldwide: Climate change may change global background pollution levels and it will affect the atmospheric chemistry. Europe: Many efforts are taken to reduce emissions of air pollutants and climate forcing agents. These efforts will contribute to changes in the levels of air pollution reaching European cities. Locally: City populations will grow. The population growth, together with the design of transportation and energy production systems, influence the city’s own contribution to air pollution. The web-service presented allows end-users in an arbitrary European city to consider these factors impact on air quality. It also includes tools for visualization and standards for easy connection to existing local model systems in the cities.

Uncertainties in future air quality: a scientific workflow tool
Future air quality in large cities will not only depend on how sustainable the city administration will be in terms of how they introduce clean technologies and organize the energy, heating and transport systems. Urban air quality will also be affected by global, hemispheric and regional contributions of longrange transported pollutants, for which the future evolution is depending on internatio...

One of the pillars of epidemiologic research on the long-term health effects of air pollution is to estimate the chronic exposures over space and time. In this study, we aimed to measure the intra-urban ambient carbon monoxide (CO) concentrations within Urmia city in Iran, and to build a model within the geographic information system (GIS) to estimate the annual and seasonal means anywhere with...

Climate change impacts are seen within growing numbers of cities in low- and middle-income countries, so there is growing interest in the adaptation and mitigation plans and programs put forward by city authorities. This paper aims to provide a better understanding of the constraints which cities face them in this subject by analyzing the case of Tehran. City has a commitment to decentralizatio...

Urban and peri-urban growth is increasing world-wide and Europe is now one of the most urbanized continents in the world. Oslo is one of the fastest growing cities in Europe. This creates pressure on its infrastructure, including traffic and environmental urban quality. Additionally, vehicular traffic is a major contributor to CO2 emissions, which impacts climate change. It is recognized that a...
